Last words is a non-related suite Love Sunday, a film by Hiroki earlier. While it has immediate similarities characters, setting, or a story, there are strong parallels in themes and flows for fans of the original should be good to check. That being said, it is perfectly missions without having seen the first movie as last stands completely his own words.
The film revolves around death, acceptance and make the best of your remaining time. Nagisa is diagnosed with cancer at the age of 17, a disease that killed his mother, a year earlier. When she asked her father how she left a revealing silence follows. Nagisa is immediately and returned to his hometown to leave three years earlier, on a visit to a childhood friend (and secret love).
Instead of saying the sad news, and begin a journey of grief and sadness she hides its State and tries to enjoy his company as much as it can. Things get a little sour when it discovers Satoshi is hooking up with another woman, who was married and who already has a child of her own. She tries to intervene, but ends up ruining his relationship with Satoshi.
Beside the words of the last Visual is what you would expect a film Hiroki. Much work blended handycam well-formed, pleasant yet far from awesome shots. However, Hiroki knows to paint a picture of just handycams. Beautiful room camera light and smart you carry in real scenes, movements help feeling these same benefits little characters are experience. This is the key to the quality of his films.
Once more, the music is a collection of music for piano subtle that combine with J - POP (quality). There is a weird combination, especially for a Director of subtle, human dramas but he gives his films some additional identity. J-POP is fairly decent irritate, could be a little more fitting but can get a little too safe sometimes music for piano.
The acting is great together, as might be expected. Horikita and Fukikoshi times in excellent performance and are given enough space to shine. The journey by bus to the end of the film is beautifully acted, something that you await players this young. One of the gifts of fine but subtle Hiroki.
The dramatic climax on the bus is impressive, one of the best scenes I've seen in any movie Hiroki so far. One can only guess how many suspects Satoshi disease of Nagisa, but this bilayer in this scene is absolutely refreshing. So essentially a farewell sad and tragic, there are many unique ambience that runs throughout the whole sequence.
Ultimately though a different scene that makes me appreciate the Hiroki cinema all that much. There is a rise of Satoshi and Nagisa a Firehouse. Once on top of the Blue Coast reveals, strong wind and the sun shines bright. Even if I am watching this film in winter, 08: 00 in the morning, that I am here with the characters and enjoy the feeling of the wind and the Sun as much as they are. This is what makes it so great cinema of the Hiroki.
For Western viewers, the themes of the last words can be quite sad and depressing, but acceptance of Nagisa nearing brush died a very different picture. What motivates this film is the satisfaction, joy and happiness. Take advantage of what remains and deal with whatever comes your way. This means no there are no sadness or loss here, but people just deal with it and leave. Once more a pretty dramatic from the hands of Hiroki, assured quality
